WWII Italian Officer’s Fascist Dagger – D879

This is an excellent example of a Model 1937 dagger, the type worn by officers within Mussolini’s Blackshirt security forces during the 3rd Reich era. The aluminum pommel and hilt assembly is in very nice condition, with basically smooth surfaces throughout. Both grip plates have been expertly trimmed and fitted to the recessed areas which comprise the grip. A beautiful bright fasces emblem is shown in the center of the obverse, symbolizing power and jurisdiction. An emblem which Mussolini and the paramilitary party adopted in 1919 when he started the Fascist party.

With this edged weapon comes a fine scabbard in which this dagger was housed in. The shell remains fairly straight considering the thin steel alloy in which it was made from. With basically one small edge crease. The screw on lower fitting ball in intact, as is the lower brass fitting. Both brass scabbard bands are in place, and hold the hanger rings properly. Additionally, the throat is held by the proper 2 flat head brass screws. With this scabbard comes a nice set of period hangers. The hardware is all intact, and the components function fine. The period leather showing light wear has held up quite well considering the age of this accoutrement.

Lastly the blade, and it’s a beauty. It remains full length, void of any pitting, buffing or chips. An excellent plated finish which has not been cleaned nor polished, runs the full length of both sides. A super small and fine serrated factory design has been imparted on the top edge of this blade. It’s is beautifully crafted and period professionally done. The lower fuller edge exhibits a light grind along it. A decent blade all in all to complete this edged weapon.

A fine looking Fascist, 3rd Reich era officers dagger. Complete with hangers.   SOLD
