WWI German Fighting Knife by DEMAG – D795

This is a little gem of a WWI Nahkampfmesser Combat Trench Knife which was produced by the Deutsche Maschinefabrik firm of DUISBURG. The grooved grip plates show light age consistent with wear and use during the period. Both oak halves are tightly riveted to the spine of the hilt, and secure the crossguard firmly in place. An excellent scabbard accompanies this knife. The period black enamel has held up extremely well and rates 95%. Riveted to the upper section is the short leather hanger. It’s all complete, tight to the shell, with the hold down strap  that functions fine. Lastly, completing this fight knife is the blade. As shown in the photos, it’s surface is covered with old protective cosmoline from tip to hilt.  In spite of that, the blade appears to be totally mint under that coating. Finally, the obverse riccasso is stamped DEMAG, while the reverse displaying the Imperial crown proof.  An excellent example of a WWI, German fighting knife!   SOLD
