Unit Marked SA Dagger by Merten – D965

For the collector who likes that untouched look in a 3rd Reich dagger, here it is. And better yet, it’s personalized and unit marked as well. Buffers need not apply.

A beautiful grip and hilt begin the description of this early nickel silver SA. The smooth wood which is laden with subtle dark vertical grain lines is in fantastic condition. Being void of any splits, cracks, chips, or missing material. In the center of the obverse a gorgeous toned eagle has been perfectly set straight and flush to the surface of the wood. Above it, the SA runes button is all intact. Yet totally covered with a dark patina which has encrusted this entire edged weapon. Now on the lower reverse of this grip, it appears that the owner of this dagger has dotted into the wood what looks like to be his initials, and SA unit number. The first initial is definitely the letter J. Then the next 1-2 letters are tough to make out. Finally there is a slash and set of numbers which read like this: “ / 29 R” With this information the next owner of this dagger might be able to identify at least the SA unit associated with this dagger. Finally, the crossguards have turned a golden / greenish color, with a thick as all get out patina over their surfaces.

This scabbard to this early Storm Troopers dagger is in good shape. The shell remains straight, void of any dings, creases, bends, or dents. An excellent period dark brown anodizing remains very strong on this surface of this scabbard, and rates 90%. Both upper and lower fittings are tight to the shell, and held secure by 4 untouched screws. As shown, the same crusty patina covers these components, exactly matching that which is seen on the crossguards. The reverse of the upper fitting is scratched with the initial JR or JK.

Lastly the blade to this absolutely untouched SA dagger. It remains full length, straight, void of any tipping, sharpening, or cutting edged chips. Avowed, it does have some light surface age which is mainly confined to the reverse side. Honestly, it’s not all that detracting for the alure that the rest of this edged weapon has going for it. Additionally, the obverse side has a nice factory surface luster which has remained quite strong, as you can see from the photos. The blade has an excellent crossgrain which is complemented by a beautiful dark burnished Alles fur Deutschland motto running straight down the center of the obverse. The reverse ricasso is etched with a simple oak leaf motif, and August Merten edged weapon firm name.

A neat SA that is personalized, unit marked, and totally untouched.    SOLD
