Type I Gravity Knife by SMF – D1072

In the past few years these paratrooper knives have taken off like crazy in regards to popularity within the collecting community. Where once seen and offered in abundance at almost every gun and militaria show that collectors would attend, now it’s hard to find a single decent example at any price. Then factor in that approximately 20% of these first models suffered from broken spring failure, that really puts it into prospective further as to availability affecting today’s market. That said, take a look at this beauty in this listing.

Both of the oak grip plates to this FJ knife couldn’t be any nicer. They match in both color and grain, have been expertly trimmed and tightly riveted in place. Additionally, they remain void of any splits, fractures, major pressure marks, or missing wood splinters. Though this 3rd Reich utility knife was most likely issued and carried, the plating to the head, release lever and spring has held up very good on this edged weapon. It displays some typical surface wear mainly confined to the sides of the head section, as a result of perhaps riding in a pocket or tucked into a soldier’s belt. The marlin spike is like new on this knife, opens and closes with a stiff spring, and is proper stamped with a stick eagle Waffenamt. The release lever is as stiff as the day that this gravity knife was issued, and releases as well as extends the blade in one swift click. As for the blade, it’s about as mint as they come. Two little extremely minor tics to the cutting edge at the tip, is the only imperfection if you can even consider that to be a challenge. This is a very nice example, comes with high recommendations.
