Type A Early SS Chain Dagger – D1169

In this offering is probably the most sought-after combination when it comes to the earliest manufactured M36 SS chain daggers. That being the Type A chain, with the uncommon rare unique motto etch. I can’t state how rare as well as desirable this combination is. Have a look.

A fine slender profile grip begins the description of this dagger. For as delicate as these SS dagger handles are, this one has certainly survived the test of time in beautiful condition. It remains nicely intact, void of any splits, cracks, chips, flakes, repairs, or unsightly damage. A couple very minor pressure marks is basically it. Both the eagle as well as SS runes button have been expertly set straight and flush to the wood and remain in wonderful condition exhibiting minor surface wear. Upper and lower crossguards are smooth to the touch and have taken on an undisturbed even patina over their surfaces. 

For such an early produced SS chain dagger and no doubt worn as well as displayed often by its owner, the scabbard to this edged weapon has survived amazingly well. The shell is straight, void of any bends, creases, hits, splits, or damage. The period black enamel displays very good, with coverage still over 90%. All 3 fittings remain tight as well as solid to this shell, and firmly in place. It looks like a couple of the lower chape screws have been replaced at one time. The chain is a beauty! Though while the connectors are twisted and stretched and with one it appears replaced in the lower span, the links themselves are struck in beautiful detail and super period burnishing.

Finally, the blade, and it’s a beauty! Full length, straight, void of any tipping, bends, buffing, polishing, or cutting-edge chips, its as nice as one would hope to find on one of these rare combination introductory SS officer’s chain daggers. It does have the typical in and out light surface runner imperfections, but man what a screamer it truly is. Take a look at the killer burnishing to what I call the spidery letter configuration of the Meine Ehre heist Treue. It just doesn’t get any better. Truly a beautiful blade to top this very desirable Type A chain off.
