Storm Trooper’s Dagger by Puma – D901

With the popularity of SA daggers being stronger than collectors have ever seen in the past, and even with the millions which were produced during the 3rd Reich era, quality examples are always a challenge to locate. Especially with the tight market which we are seeing at the moment. Here is a sweet Puma if you’ve been holding your funds back for such an example.

A gorgeous tiger striped handle begins the description of the hilt of this SA, and that’s no exaggeration. When collectors encounter a grip like this, they can only hope that the rest of the edged weapon follows along the line in regards to condition. And you will notice that this one certainly does. The wood is in near perfect condition throughout, void of any cracks, chips, flakes, pressure marks, or anything else. As shown in the photos, it is laden with the most stunning subtle dark horizontal stripes both obverse and reverse. The nickel silver eagle and SA runes button are in fine condition, exhibiting little or no wear what so ever. They have been expertly set straight and flush to the surface of the obverse. As for the hardware, both crossguards have turned a golden / greenish hue with an undisturbed patina that has settle over their surfaces. An absolutely beautiful hilt and grip assembly on this early Puma SA dagger!

I could only wish that every SA we came across had a scabbard as beautifully preserved as the one that you are looking at to this edged weapon. This shell remains straight, void of any hits, dings, or bends. An absolutely fantastic factory brown anodized finish graces both fore and aft, rating very strong at 97%. You just don’t see scabbards like this, especially associated with such an early maker marked SA! Both upper and lower nickel fittings have turned a desirable dull muted appearance over the years, exactly the same hue as the hilt crossguards. 3 out of 4 period dome head screws hold the hardware secure and properly on to this scabbard. For the next owner I will round up a match for the one that is missing. At the top fitting ring an early Assmann marked clip with leather hanger completes this assembly. The retainer loop is present, though it is a replacement.

We finish this description with the blade, and it’s one schweet shiv! Full length, drawn to a needle point tip, it remains void of any tipping, sharpening, pitting, or buffing. There are a couple extremely minor edge imperfections at the top plane, so small that I don’t think that they can be even seen in the photos. For everything else this edge weapon has going for it, that is would be fairly insignificant even for the most discriminant of collectors out there. An excellent fine line crossgrain is present on both side of this blade, running from lower crossguard to tip. If that’s not enough for you, take a look at that outrageous killer dark Alles fur Deutschland motto running straight down the middle of the obverse! Each and every letter of the etch as gorgeous as the day that this blade was finished nearly 90 years ago. Finally the trademark which collectors associate with quality when it comes to Nazi era edged weapons, the logo of the puma firm shown on the reverse ricasso.

This honey of a Puma has it all, and then some!      SOLD
