SS Gorget – G204

These 8″ wide, half moon Streifendienst gorgets make an impressive display to say the least, for a collector’s history and WWII artifact room. Worn by special Shutzstaffel troops who’s duty were to watch over and police the behavior of their own comrades while they were out in public, at rally, and formal ceremonies. We also at times see period photos of SS color guard personal wearing these breast plates as they stood holding ceremonial national battle and SS lager flags. While most of these Streifendienst gorgets are encountered so absolutely new, sterile, and pristine, it’s nice to have one that shows some light use consistent with wear during the period. The obverse body exhibits just light age to it’s surface, bearing just some superficial imperfections. A nice burnished set of SS runes surrounded by a field of black is shown in the center of the gorget. Underneath is the gold ribbon banner the word Streifendienst, which designated special military patrol duty assignment. The 23″ inch interlinked chain is in excellent condition, void of any kinks or repairs. As typical the reverse of the breast plate is black wool lined to cover the hook fasteners. On this particular example some of the 80 year old adhesive has dried over 3/4 of a century, to where the backing can gently be lifted up. Thereby you can actually see the inner construction of the back side, and some of the hardware attachments. This can easily be tacked down if the new owner so desires. Lastly, the center hook is properly stamped; SS 140 RZM.  This is an SS gorget which actually shows some light use by the SS officer who wore it during the infamous 3rd Reich period. I like it ! SOLD
