SS Fez – H166

These are the headgear worn by certain ethnic groups pulled in by the SS German war machine to fight for their cause. Mainly they were designated for the 13th Waffen SS Mountain division, otherwise know as Hanschar. This particular red version was worn with dress tunics which usually bore the collar tabs designed to represent their foreign country. No doubt many of these freedom fighters were sacrificed as the first line of defense against the enemy.

The body of this fez is red wool in near perfect condition, as I doubt that this cap was ever issued. The material is void of any pulls, holes, digs, tears or anything else. As standard for these caps, the tassel is black and is neatly bundled where it tied to the stem protruding from the center of the top. The Bevo skull and eagle emblems are in perfect condition, and hand sewn to the front. Where many times these insignia are askew and sewn cantered, this set is dead on perfectly straight. There was a time when these caps were rather inexpensive and individuals would purchase them just to cut the insignia off. As the SS skull and eagle were worth double the price of the entire fez that they were taken from. Evidence of that is seen where many fezs are today sold void of the valuable insignia that they once had. The interior of the cap is as perfect as the exterior. To include the supple red sweatband. This is a perfect choice example ! SOLD
