SS Candidate Subordinate Sword by Krebs – D853

If you are looking for an candidate subordinate degen to complete your SS sword collection, the example in this offering is the perfect one to do so. As it truly is a beauty!

A fantastic grip and hilt assembly begin the description on this degen in the SS sword series. The wood is in excellent shape, being void of any chips, crack, or missing material. The outstanding gloss black enamel has held up amazingly well on this handle. And the same goes for the plating to the upper ferrule, D guard, and pommel nut. Being a candidate subordinate sword, the pommel and grip are void of any SS emblems. Additionally, as typical for the hilt components, the lower ferrule has turned almost black with patina. This component with few exceptions, was ever plated during the production era. Wrapped around the lower hilt is a portapee that came on this sword when we got it. Some consider these as a period accoutrements. In any event it looks good tied on this grip and crossguard.

A wonderful scabbard accompanies this degen. The 34” shell is straight, void of any bends, twists, splits,  or major hits, and perfectly matches the length of the blade. The black period enamel is exceptional, and rates 99%. Without a doubt it matches the overall wonderful condition of this entire edged weapon. The upper throat is secure to the shell with 2 factory dome head screws. Closely looking at the diamond shapes within the basket weave pattern, it appears that the black has been touched up at some point. Perhaps even period, as inherently these areas are never very dark to begin with. The lip of the upper fitting is stamped with the SS culture proof as well.

We finish with the blade. The only description necessary is……………..it’s MINT !

A truly beautiful SS candidate subordinate degen.   SOLD
