Slant Grip Heer Officer’s Dagger by SMF – D897
Though known primarily for excellent Luftwaffe daggers and swords which they manufactured during the 3rd Reich, seldom do collectors encounter any army officer’s daggers bearing the SMF trademark. Though if you’ve been in search of one, here is a stunning example we have in this offering.
As the title implies, the grip to this early Heer dagger is of the slant variety. That becomes obvious with the sharp downward angle which the decorative surface lines project. This gorgeous handle is in near perfect condition, void of any chips, crack, or missing Trolon material. An excellent toned outstretched eagle crossguard is shown with dark patina over it’s entirety, as nothing has been cleaned on this edged weapon since being returned home as a souvenir from WWII. Likewise, the ferrule and 14 leaf pommel project the same rich toned color as well.
A fine scabbard accompanies this SMF army dagger. It is straight as an arrow, and void of so much as a single tiny ding. Like the hilt fittings, it is dark with a beautiful undisturbed age look which so many collectors love to see. Both scabbard bands are solid to the shell, and hold the hanger rings properly. 2 flat head factory screws hold the throat and runners secure.
Finally, we finish up with the blade. And I’m telling you it is one sweet shiv! A couple minute runner marks are hardly worth mentioning, because the rest of it is as nice as you would hope to truly find. And especially being associated with a Heer officer’s dagger. Incidentally, on the rarity scale this maker comes in at a 7. When is the last time you’ve encounter one with the appeal of this beauty?? On the reverse is the seated king logo holding an upright sword, that of the Stoker edge weapon firm.
Slant grip, killer condition, rare maker. This early Heer has it all! SOLD
