Silver Tank Destruction Badge – M523
Offering a desirable Type II example of a silver TDB in this listing. As many collectors are aware of, these coveted awards were to recognize those daring war hero’s who singlehandedly destroyed an enemy tank or armored combat vehicle, using only a handheld weapon, or attaching an explosive charge onto the roaring monster. I can’t imagine the cajones this must have took for an individual to perform such an act of valor! Manufacture in the typical manner with a symbol of Mark IV tank affixed to a silver bullion strip, this is exactly what you want to see with one of these period tank destruction awards. Additionally it has the proper horizontal dual black border stripes which angle slightly upward. The reverse of this example is shown utilizing dark green mesh fabric covering the pins of the emblem. The award displays the unmistakable age and wear of a TDB which was definitely affixed to a courageous combatant’s tunic at one time. This is a sweet example with a lot of character! SOLD
