RZM SS Dagger by Tegel – D774

Where once collectors would have turn their noses up to RZM era SA or SS dagger years ago but those times have gone by the way side for the last several years. The reason is the realization that condition will always outweigh the factor of whether an edged weapon was produced early or late in the period. Here’s a beautiful RZM M33 SS dagger in this listing.

The grip to this Carl Tegel SS dagger is in excellent condition. It remains free from any chips, cracks, fractures or repairs. The wood is smooth throughout, with barely a hint of any pressure marks or wear. As a later produced edged weapon manufactured in 1939 the grip eagle is aluminum. The bird has fairly decent detail in spite of the softer material it was made from. As an edged weapon spanning the time frame when the exhausting of early components gave way to the demands of the war, this handle still is fitted with one of the early SS runes buttons. Both the silvering of the lightening bolts and the background black enamel are both in near perfect condition. As a war time produced dagger the crossguards are comprised of a nickel plated zinc alloy. In spite of that, the plating has held up amazingly well compared to what we see later in the period. As shown, the hardware exhibits just a hint of the typical lifting where moisture from the grip bubbled the surface coating just a little. All not that bad for an RZM era edged weapon.

An excellent scabbard accompanies this dagger. The shell remains straight, void of any splits, dog legs, repainting or abuse. There is one little depression on the reverse where it looks like this dagger was once worn with a vertical marching hanger, though one did not come with it.  A fantastic period factory black enamel covering rates 99%. Both upper and lower nickel platted fittings are in wonderful condition, just like the rest of the components to this dagger. Even the ball on the lower chape is 100%, void of so much of a single tap. Lastly, 4 untouched dome head screws hold the fittings solid to the shell.

We finish up with the blade to this dagger, and it’s a gorgeous example to say the least! Perfectly straight and drawn to a needle sharp tip, this blade is about as nice as it gets on any Nazi era edged weapon. While a fine line crossgrain graces both sides, a stunning jet black burnished Meine Ehre heist Treue SS motto can be seen perfectly etched straight down the obverse of this blade. On the reverse ricasso is RZM contract number for the Karl Tegel edged weapon firm and the date: M7/81, RZM 1241/39 SS.

Truly a beautiful RZM era M33 SS dagger, in it’s entirety.  SOLD
