RZM Period SS Dagger by Luneschloss – D854

The collecting community doesn’t see all that many M33 SS daggers manufactured later in the RZM period to speak of. Here is a fairly decent one in this offering.

An excellent grip forms the hilt of this edged weapon in fine order. It is of a higher ridge contour profile, very typical of this era for SA and SS dagger manufacturing. The wood is in very good condition, being void of any cracks, splits, chips, or missing material. The aluminum grip eagle has been set flush to the wood, and exhibits fine detail to the features of the bird. At the top of the obverse an excellent SS runes button is shown centered and in fine shape. For a dagger made late in the production period, the plated crossguards have held up surprisingly well. There is some flaking where moisture in the wood affected the edges of the hardware, though it’s not all that bad.

The scabbard to this dagger remains in good condition. With the exception of one bump at the lower reverse, the shell is void of any major issues. One look at the black enamel paint, and you can tell that it is definitely period done. It  shows the aging and spidering typical with these scabbards painted during the time period. Though the surface of the upper and lower fittings show some oxidation, they are still in decent condition, and held secure by the proper factory dome head screws.

The blade to this M33 dagger is excellent. Full length, void of any sharpening, chipping, pitting, or cutting edge chips, it’s about as nice as one would expect to find on a war time produced dagger. Typical for this era, the surface of the blade projects a muted appearance given off by the fine line crossgrain finish. A very dark burnished Meine Ehre heist Treue motto is shown beautifully etched straight down the center of the obverse. On the reveres is the RZM code M7/14 & RZM 1051/40 SS. Basically it’s a mystery as to why both of these codes were employed in this manner.

You don’t see many later RZM SS daggers like this one. It’s definitely a nice example!  SOLD
