Red Cross EM Hewer – D927

There was a time when you could not give these hefty Red Cross edged weapons away, and now suddenly try finding a nice one anywhere is a bit of a challenge. The popularity of these hewers which sport the look of an ancient Roman dagger profile, has collectors as well as dealers now taking a bit more interest in these daggers during the last several years. Have a look for yourself.

Excellent grip plates begin the description of the hilt to this Red Cross EM hewer. They are snug to the spine, in wonder condition, and void of any chips, breaks, splits, scuffs, or missing material. The nickel plating to the crossguard, front / back straps, and pommel is absolutely the best. Displaying even a fair amount of period applied protective lacquer over their surfaces.

The scabbard to this edged weapon is in fine condition all the way through. It remains straight, void of any bumps, dings, creases, or bends. An excellent period black enamel covers this shell nicely and rates strong at 97%. Both top and bottom fittings are in place, and show the age of an undisturbed patina which has settled over their surfaces. As a nice bonus to this scabbard is equip with a fine original to the piece frog, shown attached to the upper portion of this shell. The leather has good period black dye, remains supple, with the proper stitching and rivets all intact. On the reverse it is maker stamped and dated 1938. Additionally there is what appears to be the owner name penned on the surface of the leather.

We finish up with the blade. Take a look at the photos. It honestly doesn’t get any better!

This is a fine 3rd Reich period Red Cross hewer, in very collectible condition.  $1175.00
