Rare SSVT Marked M24 – G213

As with many items manufactured specifically for the Waffen SS, there were also stick grenades marked and designated for the SS-Totenkopfverbände. This fact is also confirmed and shown on the Bergflak website, which covers the history of the German M24 grenade identification and production. Here is a direct quote from that site: “Of special note: These Stielhandgranate 24 were manufactured especially for the Waffen-SS, and they are marked SS-TV, an abbreviation for SS-Totenkopfverbände. Due to the internal competition between the armed forces the newly formed Waffen SS, formations had to equip themselves with whatever weapons they could get hold of. This included both the use of weapons from the occupied countries, as well as weapons procured from German and foreign factories that didn’t have a contract with the Wehrmacht. Incidentally, some of these handles have turned up at the same locations that the first SS-TV units were deployed in the spring of 1941.

Though the period paint on this canister shows some age and wear, it is still pretty decent for one of these rare SS marked as well as matched stick grenades. The top of the can is stamped cap 42, the designation for the Adolf Volker ordinance firm. The stick is stamped cap 41, which is exactly as shown on the reference site. Underneath it you can make out the SS initials, where the – TV is obscured and worn. Finally, the ball and string are gone to time on this M24.
