Rare Maker SA by C&J – D843

As collectors are well aware of, getting an SA dagger that has both rarity and condition is usually on opposite ends of the spectrum. Here is one that comes in as an 8 on the rarity scale, and has the condition to go with it.

An excellent grip begins the description of this early Clemen & Jung Storm Trooper’s M33 dagger. It is in beautiful condition throughout,  with a medium brown color with subtle dark vertical stripes running on both sides of it. The wood remains in fantastic shape, and is void of any chips, splits, cracks, or repairs. In the center of the obverse, a nickel high neck eagle has been set straight and flush to the wood. Above it near the upper crossguard, the same can be said of the SA runes button. The early nickel silver emblem exhibits not only all of the brown enamel background, but also the silvering to the border and runic letters; SA. Both upper and lower crossguards have turned a muted and dull golden color, with an undisturbed patina which has settled over their surfaces. As nothing has been touched nor cleaned on this edged weapon for over ¾ of a century.

A fantastic scabbard accompanies this early SA. It remains straight, void of any hits, bends  or creases. An absolute killer period brown anodized finish can be seen running down both sides, and to include the factory protective lacquer which is still intact at 98%! Dark muted and grungy, both upper and lower fittings exactly match the patina of the hardware on the hilt to a tee. 4 period dome head screws hold the fittings tight and in place. As a further testament of the condition of this scabbard, even the bottom ball on the lower fitting remains at near 100%. As a component that took most of the wear and tear on these edged weapons, especially one as early as this, you just don’t see scabbards like this all that often.

We finish up the description of this SA with the blade. It remains full length, straight, void of any tipping, sharpening, or cutting edge chips. The surface remains bright with excellent crossgrain running the length of both sides. The surface has a little bit of age here and there, but honestly for a rare maker SA it is not all that detracting. A nice dark Alles fur Deutschland motto can be seen perfectly etched running straight down the obverse. Each and every letter burnished beautifully. On the reverse is the single oval trademark with the name of the edged weapon firm not all that often encountered with these early SA daggers: Clemen & Jung.

Rare maker, condition, and untouched…. It doesn’t get any better!  SOLD
