Rare Maker 2nd Model Navy Dagger – C&J – D803

If there was a rarity list on Kriegsmarine daggers, the one in this offering would be in the 10 category. Have a look, as these Clemen & Jung 3rd Reich navies are rarely encountered within the collecting community.

A fantastic grip starts out the description of this navy dagger, all in fine order. The Trolon over wood off white handle is in excellent condition, void of splits, cracks, or missing material. A double strand of decorative twisted copper wire is firmly set within the grooves of the grip, and tight all the way around. The lower crossguard is of heavy brass base metal, and is of the drilled variety for the blade release button. A beautiful detailed eagle pommel holds this entire hilt assembly super tight to the tang of the blade. Void of any movement or wiggling. Finally, a cellon portapee shown in the proper reef laced pattern complements the grip and hilt of this 2nd model Kriegsmarine dagger.

As somewhat typical, when it comes to the scabbard of this dagger, it does have some bowing and denting to it’s soft metal composition. As most collectors are aware of, it’s pretty much the nature of the beast when it comes to these scabbard found on 3rd Reich dirks. That aside, it is void of any splits or sever misshaping which are all that unsightly. Both scabbard bands are tight to the shell, and hold the hanger rings in proper fashion. Two dome head screws secure the throat.

We finish up with what make this particular 2nd model navy so rare, the blade. And what a beautiful example it is! Perfectly straight, drawn to a needle point tip, it remains void of tipping, sharpening, graying, or cutting edge chips. The stunning plating is offset by the fantastic dark fouled anchor etch, running down the length of both sides. it truly doesn’t get any nicer than what you are seeing in these photos. Lastly, the trademark that is seldom seen on these navies. That of the shield logo with the letter Z shown stamped on the obverse riccasso. And on the other side, the company name on the reverse; Clemen & Jung.

An extremely rare maker, seldom seen associated with a 3rd Reich 2nd model Kriegsmarine dagger.    SOLD
