Rare Early Personalized SS M33 Maker by Shuttlehoffer – RC138

Rare actually is an understatement for the manufacture of the dagger in this listing. As most edged weapon collectors have only observed the maker of this M33 SS dagger in 3rd Reich edged weapon references. Here is a wonderful example of that elusive maker Shuttlehoffer in this offering.

You couldn’t ask for a nicer grip to an SS dagger than what you are seeing here. The wood is in perfect condition, devoid of any splits, cracks, repairs, or missing chunks of wood. The nickel silver eagle has been placed flush and straight to the obverse, shown properly just below the center line of the grip. The eagle is in good condition though shows some slag in the arms of the swastika. This was the result of leftover material previously left in the die when the eagle was stamped. Don’t flop around on the floor about it, as I’ve seen this in the past even with Type A chain dagger grip emblems as well. At the top of the obverse is a fantastic SS runes button in about as perfect condition that you can imagine. Both upper and lower crossguards are nice and smooth, and so is the pommel nut. These later manufactured M33’s which are found with the last of the trademark blades will be mostly seen without district stamped crossguards. That is because of the timeframe when this process was eliminated.

The scabbard to this rare Asso manufactured SS dagger is in excellent condition. The shell remains straight, void of any dings, hits, creases, splits, or bends. As an early mid- period dagger so to speak, this scabbard is factory painted black. The enamel is as nice as you would hope to encounter on any SS dagger and rates nearly 100%. Another characteristic often encountered on these M33’s bearing rare trademarks, is the counterweight that these scabbards will have internally within the shells. And that is exactly what this scabbard has as well. The upper and lower fittings are in excellent condition and perfectly match the hue of the hilt hardware to an absolute tee. Produced during the short timeframe of when manufactures were transitioning from solid nickel to plated components, the fittings while in appearance of being comprised of nickel, are actually early plated. Finally, at the top of this scabbard is an excellent vertical hanger / D ring with plated Assmann clip which perfectly matches the vintage of this edged weapon.

Lastly, the blade which ties in the timeframe of when these Shuttlehoffer daggers were produced. This blade is absolutely beautiful! It remains full length, straight, void of any buffing, tipping, sharpening, or cutting-edge chips. With a beautiful fine-line grain surface, and an absolutely stunning burnished Meine Ehre heist Treue motto, you couldn’t ask for anymore. But there is more. On the reverse of this blade are the owners’ initials “J W”, and the date 1936. This perfectly ties in what I’ve been showing you all along. Contrary to what collectors for years have believed that these rare maker SS daggers were being manufactured during the 1934 & 1935 timeframe, they weren’t. Along with CB Reinh, Gembrauch, Jacobs, and Klittermann / Moog, these trademarked Shuttlehoffers made their brief appearance at the very end of when logos were encountered and allowed on M33 SS dagger blades.

A rare opportunity, for a very rare Shuttlehoffer M33 SS dagger.    SOLD
