Police Officer’s Sword by Rath – D845

This listing is for a 3rd Reich Police officer’s degen which was sold by a Solingen distributor by the name of Herm Rath. An excellent grip and hilt assembly starts this sword off in fine order. The wood remain nice and dark just like you want to see these handles, and void of any chips, cracks, splits or missing material. Tightly wrapped around the circumference, the copper wire is all firmly in place. The police emblem is set flush and centered in the obverse, showing some light wear to only the bird’s chest feathers and head areas. The plating to the ferrules, d guard, and pommel nut is decent, with some surface oxidation shown on the reverse crossguard. Wrapped around the hilt is the police officer’s degen knot that this edged weapon came with.

A good scabbard accompanies this edged weapon. It’s fairly straight with just the typical slight bowing that is pretty much inherent to these rather lengthy shells. The period black enamel remains respectable, with the coverage a solid 90%. Both upper and lower fittings are solid to the shell, and held in place by their proper factory screws.

Lastly, the 33 ½” blade to this degen is in good condition, and perfectly matches the length of the scabbard that it has been housed in. The surface has a nice matte finish the length of both sides, just like you want to see on these swords. Void of any sharpening, tipping, pitting or cutting edge chips, it displays quite nicely to say the least. On the reverse riccasso is stamped the distributor name Herm. Rath, with a set of SS runes below that.

A nice untouched 3rd Reich Police Officer’s degen, all the way around.    SOLD
