Police Officer’s Degen – D850

Certainly right up there with SS swords, the police degens produced during the 3rd Reich are very popular with edged weapon collectors. With an overall length of 41” inches, this is a desirable one in this offering. On top of that it’s a collectors favorite, and manufactured by the Carl Eickhorn firm.

Eickhorn did a beautiful job with their hilt assemblies, and you can see that in the photos in this sword. The dark wood grip is in very good condition, with just one imperfection at the tip eagle’s right wing. Other than that it displays exceptionally well, and is strikingly contrasted by the silver wire rapped rungs. All of the wire is in place, and tight to the grip. An excellent police eagle emblem is nicely set straight and flush to the wood. The D guard upper / lower ferrules, and pommel nut have taken on a dark patina over their surfaces. As nothing has been polished nor cleaned on this souvenir since being returned from WWII. Though not shown, a set of SS runes is stamped on the underside of the crossguard.  A police portapee in proper tie completes the hilt assembly.

The scabbard to this sword is in average shape overall. As typical for these shells, it has some slight misshaping and a couple knocks to the surface. In lieu of that, the original period black enamel still remains at 80%. Both the upper and lower fittings are firmly in place, and held solid to the shell. The upper lip of the scabbard is also stamped with the SS culture proof mark.

A beautiful 35 ½” blade completes the description of this Eickhorn Police degen. Full length, void of any sharpening, pitting, or cutting edge chips, the blade to this sword is exactly what collectors have come to know from this manufacture. The matte finish displays decent, with just some minor surface imperfections. On the reverse the trademark of a seated squirrel holding a down pointed sword, proclaims the logo of excellence for what was once the Carl Eickhorn edged weapon firm.

Certainly one that will display just fine in your collection.   SOLD
