Police NCO Sword by Voos – D856
A decent grip and hilt assembly starts out this 3rd Reich Police NCO degen in fine order. The dark wood is in good condition, being void of any cracks, splits, chips, fading, or excessive wear. For an NCO version, the handle emblem is one of the best that I’ve ever seen on any maker. The eagle, wreath, and swastika project fantastic details throughout. Both upper and lower ferrules as well as the D guard and pommel, retain nice plating on their surfaces.
The scabbard to this degen is fairly straight overall. It remains void of any splits, or significant twists or bends. Viewing the period black enamel, it shows average wear and age, and covers 80% of the shell surface. The upper fitting and throat are secured properly with 2 dome head screws.
While the blade to this degen 33” in length, the scabbard housing is about 1 1/2” longer. This distance is usually 1” or less on both Police and SS swords, though 1 1/2” is certainly acceptable by most standards. True to the Voos edged weapon firm’s quality, the blade to this NCO sword is absolutely fantastic! It is full length, void of any pitting, sharpening, tipping, or any other detracting challenges. As an extra quality step in their process, Voos plated their blades as opposed to finishing them in a muted matte appearance. The plating on this blade is about as nice as a collector will encounter. On the obverse riccasso is shown the logo of a snake wrapped around a tree stump, the trademark of the Emil Voos edged weapon firm.
A harder maker to find when it comes to Police NCO degens, and this one is certainly a quality example. SOLD
