Partial Rohm SA Honor Dagger by Haenel – D1158
Not only is this SA desirable for being a dagger with the Reichsleiter partial dedication remaining on the blade, but also by being a lesser seen manufacture of these honor daggers. But to even top that off a bit more, the photos of this dagger will be included in a new reference soon to be released featuring both SA and NSKK edged weapon.
An absolutely gorgeous grip begins the description of this Haenel Rohm Honor dagger. The alure to the beauty of handles is what collectors seek with a vengeance when it comes to Suhl manufactured SA’s. And it doesn’t get any finer than what you are seeing in this offering. The wood is as perfect as you can imagine, being void of any splits, cracks, missing chunks, or even any pressure marks. And of course, by now you will have noticed the stunning vertical striped grain running throughout this handle on both obverse and reverse sides. On the lower reverse are 2 carved initials which look like the letters M & F. Most likely that of the owner of this dagger so many years ago. Both nickel silver emblems consisting of the outstretched eagle holding a swastika and the above SA runes button are in fine shape, exhibiting very minor surface wear. Lastly, the solid nickel crossguards have nice smooth surfaces with an undisturbed patina over their entirety. What a killer hilt on this beautiful dagger!
A wonderful scabbard accompanies this early M33 Stormtrooper’s dagger. The shell remains straight, void of any hits, dings, creases or splits. An excellent light coppery chemical brown oxide finish displays beautifully on this shell, to include 80% of the original factory protective clear lacquer intact. Both upper and lower solid nickel fittings are in great condition and held solid as well as firmly in place. Like the hardware on the hilt, the surface of these components remain with a subtle muted patina.
That brings us to the blade. It is straight, full length, void of any tipping, buffing, polishing, sharpening scars, or cutting-edge chips. There are some light surface oxidation spots here and there, though not all that detracting for such an untouched dagger so to speak. A nice dark Alles fur Deutschland burnished motto is shown in the photos, etched deep and straight down the obverse. On the reverse you can see that it was the owner of this Rohm honor dagger who took it upon himself and grind the last part of the dedication as well as the Reichsleiter’s signature from the surface. The directive issued during the time after the “purge”, was the grinding of these blades were to have the entire dedication as well as Rohm signature totally removed. And to the delight of collectors on these partials, that was not always followed as you can see with this example. Finally, the Haenel trademark is shown intact on the reverse riccasso.
There you have it. Suhl produced partial Rohm honor dagger. And soon to be featured in color in a new reference which is now in the works. $4695.00
