Partial Rohm SA Honor Dagger by Eickhorn – D967

As the title implies, this was one such dagger that was most likely returned to the Eickhorn firm to have the Ernst Rohm signature professionally removed from the reverse of the blade. This was one of 3 options presented to the recipient of these Rohm honor daggers, after the purge and murder of Rohm and the top officers. As you can imagine these so called partials are quite desirable with the edged weapon collecting community. Take a look.

An absolutely gorgeous grip begins the description of this partial Rohm SA dagger. The wood is in fine shape, void of any splits, cracks, or large missing chunks. There is one small divot on the reverse side about midway, additionally some small pressure marks where it looks like this dagger was used to tap in a brad or similar. The color of this handle truly is a sight to behold, in spite of those couple challenges. The combination of light and dark grain projects an attractive appearance. In the center of the obverse a high neck nickel silver eagle has been expertly set. This was a favorite insignia trademark of this most renown edged weapon firm in all of German at the time. At the top of the obverse the SA runes emblem is in good condition, displaying typical wear. Both upper and lower crossguards are fairly smooth, though appear to have been cleaned some time in the past. The bottom of the lower is bench marked 8.

The scabbard to this dagger is one of the best that I’ve ever seen. It remains straight, void of any hits, bends, creases, or splits. An absolute killer period anodizing graces both sides of this shell, and rates 99%. Both upper and lower nickel fittings are nearly as perfect, and basically void of any hits. Though there is one small seam separation at the screw of the lower chape on the left side. At the top fitting and through the ring is the original early snout nose hanger which this scabbard came with.

Finally the blade. It remains straight, full length, void of any sharpening, pitting or cutting edged chips. As mentioned, this is a dagger in which it’s owner most likely sent it back to the Eickhorn firm to have the Rohm name removed. In doing so, they first ground the signature off. Then it appears that the surface was lightly crossgrained on both sides in order to make them match more closely. And finally it was re-polished slightly. No doubt this was a delicate process because when originally issued the blade was pristine. After the grinding it naturally was altered while trying to keep the motto and partial dedication still intact. That aside, it did tend to lighten up the burnishing to both of those areas. You can see the same effect with the squirrel trademark. Yet this is still a desirable and historic Rohm honor dagger with that all important dedication intact. SOLD
