Normandy Souvenir Helmet – ET – H180
Shortly after landing on the beeches of Normandy, Allied forces launched a full out assault on the port city of Cherbourg on June 22nd. With 7,000 causalities and 30,000 captured, the Germans were totally overrun by July 1st 1944.
In this offering is a fantastic souvenir which was taken after the fall of the city. It is an M35 ET 62, single decal helmet, with reinforced aluminum liner. While dark with age, the leather remains supple this liner system. It is firmly in place with 3 tight rivets with their corresponding washers. Completing the interior is the drawstring securing all of the liner fingers, and early aluminum buckle chin strap laced through the bales. The exterior paint displays excellent, as does the toned Wehrmacht eagle. On the opposite side the national transfer has been scratched off in accordance with the 1940 directive. And lastly the Normandy connection to this helmet. The rear skirt is scratched with the following: ” 6-30-44, Found in German pill box, Cherbourg France. Pretty damn cool! SOLD
