Named M35 Lufwaffe Helmet by Quist – H185

This listing is for a model 1935 Luftwaffe combat helmet which was manufactured by the Quist firm. The feldgrau exterior paint on this example is more of a green in hue, rather than blue – gray seen at times. The factory paint is in decent condition with good coverage throughout. It’s crown having the typical scrapes as expected from field use during the period. On the left side of the lid is an excellent eagle in flight transfer which has been applied uniform, centered, and straight. Something that collectors like to see with any helmet. The decal remains very strong at 95%. On the other side of the shell the tri-colored national decal has been scraped as with accordance of the 1940 Wehrmacht high command directive.  On the inside skirt the left panel has been marked with the manufactures initial code and size: Q64. Moving to the back of the shell there is a piece of adhesive tape covering the lot number. Penned on the tape is what I believe to be the soldier’s last name, GEHRKEN. As for the liner system, it is reinforced aluminum band all in good order. The support system perfectly follows the interior of the shell, and is void of any bends, creases, or breakage. 3 untouched rivets with their corresponding washers hold the liner nice and tight to the shell. The leather to this liner remains supple to the touch, with all 8 fingers intact, and void of any rips, seam issues, or tears. On one reverse quadrant of the leather there are 2 large written bearing the initials HG. This helmet was missing the draw string when we received it. To make the interior complete and presentable I added a post war one which looks better than not having one at all. Finally, shown in the liner photo is original early aluminum buckle full length chinstrap that came with this helmet and maker marked as well as dated 1938.  A nice early M35 Luft, personalized, and complete.
