Minty Rare 3rd Reich Police Clam Shell Bayonet by C&J – D864

The title on this police bayo says it all. This is indeed a rare full length Imperial bayonet that escaped the orders to have been cut down, have the clam shell removed, with a modification to scabbard to accommodate the shortened blade length. And it is one hell of a beautiful edged weapon in every sense of the word.

The hilt to this Clemen & Jung police bayonet is in fantastic condition. Both of the matched thick stag grip plates are nicely trimmed, expertly fit, and tightly riveted to the spine. A fine looking 3rd Reich police eagle has been securely centered and pinned into the obverse plate. The sculptured pommel, crossguard, and clam shell are just the best, displaying beautiful detailed relief throughout. The reverse of the crossguard is stamped: S. Sch. I. 1060. This is the designation for Schutzpolizei Schleswig, weapon property number 1060. While the shortened versions of these bayonets will be typically found with matching numbers on both the crossguard and scabbard, these uncut versions are almost always void of the scabbard stamping. As this one is as well. A wonderful grip and hilt assembly on this uncut 3rd Reich police clam shell.

The scabbard to this bayonet is a thing of beauty. It remains straight, void of any bends or breakage, with just the small typical inner spring bulge. The period dyed black leather is in fine condition, with excellent coverage throughout. Both upper and lower nickel fitting are in good shape, and remain tight to the shell. An unmarked frog completes the assembly.

The description of the blade will be brief. Because this baby is about damn near mint! On the reverse ricasso is stamped the name of the firm responsible for manufacturing this stunning bayonet; Clemen & Jung. On the obverse and hidden by the clam shell is their logo; a shield with the letter Z on it.

If you’ve been looking for one of these, this is it. Because it simply doesn’t get any better.  SOLD
