Minty 2nd Model Luft Officer’s Dagger by Holler – D940
In this offering is an exceptional 2nd Model Luft dagger, preserved in one of the highest quality condition that I’ve ever seen for a 3rd Reich edged weapon. The off white solid Trolon grip is in fine shape, void of any splits, cracks, or chunks of missing material. It has taken on a unique look with the wire grooves darker than the decorative spiral rungs. The handle is wrapped with the typical springy wire which is all tight and properly in place. Both the crossguard and the pommel have taken on a dark rich undisturbed patina, with just the highlights of the eagle and oak leaf designs peeking out respectively on each of those component. Both obverse and reverse swastikas have the original period muted gilt over their surfaces. As most collectors are aware of, it is always a treat to find one of these 2nd models still retaining this extra factory process, but rarely ever encountered. Wrapped around the ferrule area in the proper lacing method is a beautiful 23cm knot that this dagger came with.
The scabbard to this dagger is a perfect as every other component to this edged weapon. Like the hilt fittings, it has a dark undisturbed patina over it’s surface. This shell remains straight, void of any hits, bends, splits, or creases. Both scabbard bands are firmly in place, and hold the hanger rings properly. A single reverse mounted screw secures the throat.
