Matching 3rd Reich Police Bayonet by Eickhorn – D863

This is an excellent converted Weimar police bayonet, typically transformed and repurposed for use during the 3rd Reich era. The hilts on these early 30’s bayonets by the Eickhorn firm are absolutely gorgeous. Just look at the relief to the feathers which comprise the eagle head pommel and quillion, on the hilt of this edged weapon! Save for a little lifting on the backstrap, the plating has held up very nicely. Both grip plates of are of thick slabs of stag which have been tightly riveted to the spine. A decent 3rd Reich eagle is affixed where the Imperial starburst once lie. On the reverse of the crossguard is shown the inventory number; P.B.110. This particular reference was for the police school in Bonn. Though not shown, the same number is on the reverse of the upper scabbard fitting as well.

The scabbard to this bayonet is fine condition. It remains fairly straight, void of any breaks or significant bends. Additionally, the leather is also in good condition, and is properly seamed at the reverse. Both upper and lower fittings are snug, and stapled firmly to the shell. At the upper portion of the scabbard is shown and excellent unmarked frog that came with this unit.

A beautiful blade completes this Nazi era police bayonet. As typical, there is a little discoloration at the tip where these blades were cut down and reshaped. Other than that, it remains in fine condition. On the reverse is shown the large double oval trademark which the Eickhorn firm used from 1931-33.
