M42 SS Helmet with Veteran Documents – H196

This listing as the title implies, is for an absolutely stunning M42 single decal SS helmet. The darker shade feldgrau exterior paint is in excellent condition, and exactly what we see with war time ckl (ET) lids. There is just light wear here and there to the paint, displaying some minor surface scuffs. As a testament to how well this paint has held up, even the heads of the split pins retain 100% of their matching enamel coating. Now take a look at that classic ET decal transfer! Honestly does it get any better? Not only is it straight, uniform and center to the vent hole, the remarkable gorgeous condition rates 98%. The inside skirt of this lid is stamped at the reverse with the manufacture / size ckl 64, with a lot number of 2879. On the interior, the liner band is uniform throughout, void of any breakage, bends, or kinks, and exactly follows the circumference of the shell. 3 straight split pins hold the frame solid, and are complete with their corresponding washers. The leather remains wonderful and supple in this liner system, being void of any rips, tears, or torn fingers. The interior is complete with what appears to be the original drawstring, and war time chinstrap marked with an RB stamped number.

This M42 SS helmet was returned to the U.S after WWII by Master Sergeant Melvin F. Lindquist. He served in the 401st Glider Infantry, 101st Airborne Division. There is a 18 page file which contains Lindquist’s name as being awarded the Bronze Star in June of 1945. There is also memo from US Army  headquarter regarding information on the surrender of German troops in May 1945, and another document noting Lindquist’s rank promotion. Included also are miscellaneous photocopied maps, a translation of a transcript a document to Hitler staff in relation on their impression on the aftermath of the Battle of Bastogne, and more.

All that I can say…………. Is that this is one schweet M42 SS helmet!        SOLD
