M33 SS Dagger by Klaas – D885

It’s tough finding a quality SS dagger in today’s market. As most collectors have noticed, even the nice RZM examples are snapped up fairly quickly. Here is an excellent Klaas in this offering. My personal favorite maker when it comes to early M33’s.

The grip to this Klaas SS is in fine condition. Though it shows some pressure marks due no doubt from the vertical hanger that it once was worn with, they are not all that horrible. As most are confined to the reverse of the handle. Other than that, the dark black wood is free from any chips, missing chunks, or repairs. The nickel silver eagle remains with excellent detail, and has been placed flush to the wood. Above it at the top of the obverse, a fine SS runes button is in the same condition. While exhibiting a little bit of surface wear, the enamel and silvering to the emblem is very pronounced. Both upper and lower crossguards are nice and smooth, and have taken on a golden hue to their surfaces.

Sweet lord, is this a nice scabbard to this edged weapon. It remains straight, void of any hits, splits, dings, or bends. On top of that, the period bluing is strong at 95%. And if you need more than that, this shell even has 30% of the original period protective lacquer over it’s surface. As previously mentioned, this dagger was once worn with a vertical hanger of some sort. The evidence of that can be noted on the reverse of the shell. Both upper and lower nickel fittings show average wear consistent with being carried during the period. It appears one of the screws holding the fittings tight to the shell is a replacement.

We conclude with the blade to this Klaas M33. It is full length, drawn to a needle point tip, void of any chipping, sharpening, buffing, or polishing. There is a little bit of surface oxidation on the motto side closer to the crossguard, and a little above the trademark. But I’m telling you, this blade is truly so far above the average for an early SS dagger, it isn’t funny. The remainder of the surface on both obverse and reverse is absolutely beautiful. A fine line crossgrain graces both sides of this blade, from hilt to tip. Now look at that killer dark Meine Ehre heist Treue motto! It doesn’t get any better than what you are seeing here in these photos. The same is true for the kissing cranes logo on the reverse. It’s as crisp as the day that this blade was etched by that well known 3rd Reich edged weapon manufacture.

This is a honey of an early M33 SS dagger, all the way around!   SOLD
