Luftwaffe Fighting Knife – D1065
So many times these are found in a condition showing that they took a beating at the hands of their owners. After all and like the FJ gravity knife, these edged weapons were a field utility tool, and most often used in that fashion by the soldiers who carried them. But not so with the example that we are offering in this listing. As shown, the oak grip plates remain in excellent condition, void of any splits, cracks, flakes, or missing material. They have been tightly riveted to the spine and held firmly solid in place. As another indication that this knife was not used all that much, the crossguard is nice and firm between the blade shoulder and the grip, void of any movement.
A fantastic scabbard accompanies this Luft fighting knife. It remains straight, void of any hits, splits, creases, or bends. If that isn’t enough, the period black enamel is absolutely wonderful on this shell, and rates at 99% intact. This scabbard is complete with the standard 2 piece pressure spring integral hanger shown on the reverse side.
Finally the blade. It is full length, straight, void of any sharpening scars, tipping, polishing, buffing, cutting edge chips, or major pitting. There are a few little spots of surface age from storage, and that’s honestly it. The surface retains the proper matte finish, as well as the prominent crossgrain that these blades were finished off with. On the obverse side of the riccasso the blade is stamped with the stick eagle / #5 figure, the Waffenamt proof of inspection.
A fantastic little Luft boot knife in exceptional condition. SOLD
