Long 3rd Reich Clam Shell Bayonet by C&J – D1059

Offering a rare example of a Nazi era bayonet which escaped both the blade shortening, and removal of the clam shell. Both of which were very typical with most of these police bayonets during the period. It is seldom to encounter one of these edged weapons manufactured during the period with these desirable traits, and the one in this listing is a beauty!

The stag grips on this 3rd Reich police bayo are nicely trimmed, fit with precision, and tightly riveted to the spine of this edged weapon. Most of these police bayonet grips have an aluminum blob for the grip insignia, but that is not the case for this beauty. Take a look at the detail to the police eagle firmly affixed to the obverse stag plate, as it is absolutely fantastic! And that goes for the heavy nickeled pommel, crossguard, and clam shell sections as well. The stunning 3D features on all 3 of those components pop out at you, as the relief in the designs is just absolutely the best. On the reverse the quillion has been stamped with the designation S. Sch. I. 1060. That relating to Schutzpolizei ( SHUPO state protection police, 1st district Altona-Wandsbeck, officer #1060.) Incidentally, that Roman numeral I is a extremely rare district designation to even encounter on any Nazi era police bayonet.

A beautiful scabbard accompanies this extremely fine edged weapon. The shell remains straight, void of any major hits, creases, bends, breaks, or misshaping. The black leather covering remains in excellent condition throughout, displaying very minimal wear or scuffing. Both upper and lower nickel fittings are firmly in place, and about as nice as you are apt to see on any 3rd Reich era Nazi police bayonet scabbard. At the top of this shell is the original hanger that this scabbard came with. The black leather while showing light age and wear is still nicely riveted and fully sewn all in place.

As mentioned above, unlike the majority of these edged weapons which were cut down to 13” and reissued with a rather flimsy scabbard to match, this rare example remains full length at 17”, with the Clemen & Jung  logo under the clam shell, and their name spelled out on the reverse.  As for the blade itself…………..drop dead mint! This gorgeous edged weapon must have been tucked away and treasured by it’s owner, as it is absolutely beautiful to say the least!

A stunning condition as well as rare full length clam shell Nazi era SHUPO police bayonet, in every sense of the word.    SOLD
