Imperial/Weimar Forestry Dagger by WKC – D1092

If you ever compare the Imperial-Weimar hunting and forestry edged weapons to those produced during the 3rd Reich, you’ll see the ornate quality of those made earlier on. In this offering is a desirable forestry Hirschfanger which was manufactured by the WKC edged weapon firm. It begins with an excellent stag horn grip which is expertly trimmed and fit to the heavy brass hilt of this dagger. The handle is nice and tight in the fittings, and void of any problems or issues. As shown, the obverse is decorated with 3 sets of oak leaves all tightly set in place. Below the crossguard the clam shell is beautifully detailed with a scene featuring 3 deer which is nicely projected in relief to the eye of the viewer.

An excellent scabbard accompanies this fine looking edged weapon. Considering it is at least 100 years old, the shell  remains about as straight as you’re apt to see on one of these Imperial Hirschfangers. While the leather surface exhibits some age is still remains properly sewn and void of any dry rot. Both upper and lower brass fittings are beautifully sculptured with oak leaf designs.

Finally, this dagger is equip with a 14” blade, with the over all length being 19.5”. The blade remains full length, void of any sharpening, tipping, buffing, polishing, or cutting edge chips. While the double etched hunter and animal design is lightly worn and exhibits some age, this is fairly typical of these blades of this early vintage. Under the clam shell and a bit difficult to see, the riccasso is stamped with the knight head logo, representing that of the WKC edged weapon firm.

A decent early Hirschfanger with excellent artistic appeal.  $1195.00
