Imperial Forestry Hirschfanger by Clemen & Jung – D1159
This rather large, edged weapon at 24″, was the property of a member of the fraternal organization known as the Order of the Black Eagle. The grip is the typical stag horn which has been nicely trimmed and tightly fit to the spine of this dagger. All of the hilt components are heavy brass construction and fit together solid and firm. The clam shell features an 8-point star emblem with the words Summ Cuique. This phrase stood for the Latin term ” to each his own, or may all get their due”
The scabbard to this Hirschfanger remains in fine condition. For such an older edged weapon the shell remains fairly straight, void of any crease, breaks, or significant misshaping. While the surface of the leather section exhibits some surface crazing, it still remains intact and void of any dry rot. Both the upper and lower fittings are in decent condition and held in place with the usual single staple used to fasten them.
The blade to this dagger is triple etched version showing animals, floral, and a hunting scene. While the surface displays some age darkening, it’s not all that bad for an edged weapon over 100 years old. At that, it remains full length, void of any tipping, sharpening, or cutting-edge chips. It interesting to note the extra top edge incorporated toward the lower tip section of this blade. Something not all that often encountered on these blades. On the reverse side is shown the Z in a shield stamped trademark for the C&J edged weapon firm. $1295.00
