Hitler Youth Fighting Knife by WKC – D975

This is a rare example of an early HJ fighting knife that was manufactured by WKC, the same edged who also made the Bowie style youth knives later in the 3rd Reich production timeframe. The hilt of this edged weapon is identical as that of your typical youth knife, being a little over 4” in length. The grip plates are neatly trimmed and tightly riveted to the spine of this hilt. They remain in decent condition with the exception of one crack that runs across the lower fastener to each side. The earlier pinned in HJ diamond in the obverse plate is in decent condition, though has taken a hit to the lower area of it. The plating to the pommel shows wear and age, and void of any evidence that it was ever worn with any type of cross straps to hold it in place.

The scabbard to this knife is in very good condition. It remains straight, void of any hits, creases, or splits. The period black enamel has held up very good on this shell. At the reverse top is a riveted stout spring clip which functions as the hanger for this scabbard.

Lastly, the blade closely resembles the examples manufactured by this firm for fighting knives used for WWI. It remains full length at 6”, tight within the hilt, void of any tipping, buffing, or cutting edge chips. The surface certainly shows age, use, and wear overall. There is an old leather washer that was dried and split, which I added a little conditioner to soften it a bit. On the obverse riccasso is simply the knight’s head logo, the trademark of the WKC edged weapon firm.  A rare HJ fighting knife variation.   SOLD
