Himmler Honor Dagger by Eickhorn – D1261
It’s always a pleasure to be able to offer one of these sought after desirable Himmler daggers to the collecting community. Especially when it looks like the one in this listing. I’ll try to be brief with the write-up, hopefully. Because when an edged weapon looks as gorgeous as this example, it honestly doesn’t take all that much of a description whatsoever.
As an exception to the norm, the handle on this Eickhorn Himmler honor dagger has been preserved in fantastic condition. When you find an early SS dagger with this perfect of a grip, you can consider yourself lucky. As most collectors know, the inherent manufacturing process of these early SS handles imparted the “Achilles heel” to the fragileness which they exhibit. Without a doubt, few early M33 SS daggers let alone Himmlers have ever survived with a handle as nice as the one on this edged weapon. Void of any chips, flakes, missing chunks of wood or repairs, it just doesn’t get any better than what you are seeing here! Both the “high neck eagle” and SS runic remain in nice shape overall, and set perfectly flush to the surface of the obverse. Though the black enamel is perfect on the runes, the surface silvering is mostly gone. Something which we see from time to time, which actually projects a sinister look to it in my opinion. Both crossguards are absolutely smooth throughout, while exhibiting a muted appearance to the nickel composition. The underside of the lower is benchmarked with the number 8. The fitment on this entire hilt couldn’t be nicer.
An exceptional scabbard accompanies this stunning Himmler honor dagger. The shell remains perfectly straight, void of any hits, dings, dents, creases, or anything else. The chemical oxide bluing is absolutely beautiful, rating nearly 100%. But even beyond that, the factory protective surface lacquer is still intact to the tune of 98% ! You just don’t see this on early SS scabbards, let alone on one of these very desirable SS honor daggers. Both the upper and lower nickel fittings remain in excellent condition, exhibiting a light gold hue which we see at times with these components, especially on these Himmlers. At the top of the shell is the vertical hanger which came with this scabbard. This accoutrement is in excellent condition, which complements this entire dagger beautifully!
Finally, we finish up with the blade. It just doesn’t get any better!
