Ground Rohm SA Honor Dagger by Eickhorn – D895

As most collectors are aware of, recipients of the Rohm honor dagger had the option of grinding the blade on their SA themselves, returning it to the factory to have them do it, or having the dagger entirely replaced with a new one. Here is one that looks like it’s owner had the Eickhorn factory grind the Rohm dedication, re-polish the surface, and return it to the recipient.

A good looking burl wood grip starts out this early SA in fine order. With that textbook hourglass shape, it definitely spells out Eickhorn all the way. Very typical for this manufacture, the surface look like it has a nice protective coat of clear lacquer over it which was factory done during the period. And it’s held up very nicely over the years, while affording the handle additional protection against bumps and brusing. This grip is void of any splits, chips, repairs, or missing material. A nickel silver high neck eagle has been expertly set proper just below the mid line of this handle, and in good condition. At the top of the grip, the same can be said about the SA runes button. Both crossguards are smooth throughout, as it appears that the hardware has been cleaned at one time in the past.

The scabbard to this dagger is in decent condition. It remains straight, void of any hits, dings, or creases, and project the period brown anodized finish which rates at 80%. Both upper and lower fittings like the hilt crossguards have been cleaned at some point along the line. They show the typical small ding imperfections, with the lower chape ball taking a pretty good hit as you can see. Through the top ring fitting is an early snout nose hanger. The leather and hardware are in good shape, save for the small retaining loop being missing to time. The belt loop shown comes with this set up, though appears to be a post war accoutrement some time added.

A beautiful blade completes this Eickhorn SA dagger. It is full length, void of any tipping, sharpening, pitting or cutting edge chips. A fantastic factory polished surface luster is shown running down the obverse, with a dark burnished Alles fur Deutschland contrasting it in the most striking way. The reverse has been factory ground, polished, with the addition of a crossgrain added to disguise the area which bore the Ernst Rohm dedication and signature. The craftsman who accomplished this task was careful not to touch the small double oval Eickhorn squirrel trademark.

An excellent good looking, factory Ground Rohm honor dagger.   SOLD
