Exclamation Motto SS Dagger by Klittermann & Moog – D874

Nobody really knows how only 2 edged weapon firms got away with putting a ! after the motto on their blades, when all of the other companies all followed the normal Meine Ehre heist Treue etch. The Reichsfuhrer was never one to allow any personalized insignia, special edged weapons, or added flare to be worn on the uniforms by the men under his command. Why even his highest-ranking SS General Sepp Dietrich was only seen twice in photos wearing this magnificent honor sword, before Himmler told him to put it away for good. Whatever the reason for these mysterious etched mottos has remained unknown. I always thought that they were some type of honor recognition dagger, but honestly don’t know. One thing for sure, these exclamation motto SS daggers are not all that common. Here is a budget priced one in this offering.

The grip to this dagger has a thinner profile shape to it as shown and low profile center ridge. The wood has experienced some light pressure marks and a superficial chip to upper obverse of the grip. These grips are fragile as many collectors know and so even finding one in this condition is hard enough. In lieu of that, the rest of the wood is in good condition, void of any splits, cracks, or repairs. In the center of the obverse is an upward beak nickel eagle, set straight and flush to the wood. At the top the SS runes button shows well with a little patina. As you’ve noticed by now, the crossguards have a golden hue to them more than we usually see on SS dagger hilts. I’ve actually noticed this on a few other exclamation blade SS daggers that I’ve had in the past. The lower crossguard is void of any SS district marks, exactly like we see with these all nickel M33’s.

The scabbard to this edged weapon is straight, void of any hits, splits, or bends. While these daggers came with painted shells as opposed to blued, this one came to us as you see with the blued scabboard. It is a convincing that these have been match for quite some as this edged weapon matches all the way through in regards to patina on both the dagger and scabbard. The upper and lower nickel fittings are in good shape, and held securely in place.

Yes, the blade shows surface age and spotting, though overall is not that bad considering the rarity of this maker. In light of that it still remains full length, void of any chips, sharpening, or buffing. Still fairly prominent on the obverse is the Meine Ehre heist Treue! burnished motto, with the exclamation mark that was discussed. On the reverse is shown the RZM code 7/29, which the collecting community has linked to the edged weapon firm of Klittermann & Moog.

You’re right, it’s not perfect  and if it was it would be $7500.00………… Instead it’s a great opportunity to own a rare SS maker at a more reasonable price. SOLD
