Exclamation Blade SS Dagger by Klittermann & Moog – D1105

It’s hard to believe that the Reichsfuhrer Himmler allowed 2 edged weapon firms to manufacture blades not only bearing the Meine Ehre heist Treue mottos, but also with the addition of an exclamation mark included in the etch. Thus deviating from what we see with the SS daggers produced by the other 20 or so edged weapon firms during the mid period production timeframe. But that is exactly what he did. Here is an example by the Klittermann & Moog company in this offering.

No two ways about it, the grip to this K&M SS dagger has been recondition at some point in time. It must have suffered some unsightly cracks or chips which have now been covered up. In lieu of that, the work looks pretty good. The texture of the handle is smooth and more shinny look, with the appearance which is certainly presentable. That is especially true because of the desirability of these exclamation motto SS blades. Both nickel silver emblems look to be original to this grip, and remain in good condition. The eagle as well as the runes have been expertly set, straight and flush to the handle obverse. The properly unmarked nickel crossguards are smooth to the touch, and fit the grip with minimal shrinkage. At some point they have had a thin subtle layer of gold applied to their surface. It reminds me in appearance of what we occasionally see on SA Marine NSKK chain daggers. It’s unknown why or when this may have been done. I suppose it could be removed, though I would just leave it as is. As it certainly appears to have been done quite some time ago.

A good looking scabbard accompanies this dagger. The shell remains straight, void of any hits, splits, bends, or creases. The period black enamel paint is in wonderful condition, displaying only the aged spidering that we see with these factory painted scabbards. Both nickel fittings are in decent shape, and remain secure and tight to the shell. They have been polished at one point, probably to go with the overall look of this edged weapon.

Finally the blade to this SS M33 dagger. And that is what this edged weapon is all about. It remain full length, straight, void of any sharpening, tipping, pitting, or cutting edge chips. As hoped for, it still retain a beautiful fine line crossgrain appearance from crossguard to tip, both obverse and reverse. A wonderful burnished Meine Ehre heist True! Motto is shown etched straight down the obverse, with each and every letter in beautiful contrast to the rest of this blade. On the reverse in the same matching burnishing is the RZM contract number for this edged weapon firm, M7/29. What a beauty!

Yes, this dagger has a restored grip, and perhaps some other challenges to some collectors out there. That’s fine. But try finding one of these exclamation motto blades in mint condition. They will run $8000 +, as you just don’t see them all that often being offered. And certainly not at this price;  SOLD
