Early Stormtrooper’s Dress Dagger by Malsch – D1083
Though fairly common on the rarity list for early nickel SA’s, those daggers manufactured by the Ambron Malsch edged weapon firm were quality pieces. Here is a nice example in this offering.
True to form and a characteristic of this manufacture, the grip to this dagger is like a fine piece of antique furniture. It is void of any major splits, cracks, chips, or missing wood. One micro hairline above the runes button for those collectors who look at their daggers under a microscope. This is a gorgeous chunk of wood, with light and dark grain running throughout while giving the handle a beautiful appearance. An excellent high neck eagle is void of any wear or hits, has been expertly set straight and flush just below the centerline of this handle. At the top crossguard on the obverse, the SA runes button is toned dark with some surface age. As nothing appears to have been cleaned nor touched on this edged weapon since being returned home as a souvenir from WWII. Both upper and lower crossguards are super smooth to the touch, and have taken on an even dull patina over their surfaces.
Because of the flash reflection of my camera, it doesn’t come close to depicting the actual color of this scabbard. Without a doubt it truly is an extremely nice sheath to say the very least. The shell remains straight, void of any hits, dings, splits, bends, or anything else. The anodizing remains extremely strong at nearly 100%, to include bits of the original protective lacquer still clinging to the surface close to the fittings. Both upper and lower nickel fittings are solidly in place, and held by 4 factory dome head screws. This scabbard is so nice that even the bottom chape ball remains at 100% perfect.
The blade to this Malsch SA remains straight, full length, void of any tipping, buffing, polishing, or cutting edge chips. Par for the blades this company manufactured, the steel is finished in an attractive smooth and polished luster. There is some light staining here and there, but very much overshadowed by the killer dark burnished Alles fur Deutschland etched straight down the middle of the obverse. Truly a nice un-polished and un-cleaned blade which will display just fine for the next owner.
A nice looking early nickel silver Malsch SA, with a lot going for it. SOLD
