Early SS Dagger by Hammesfahr – D1109

As the title implies, this is an early nickel silver introductory model 33 SS dagger, worn alike by enlisted men, NCO’s, and officers serving in the Allgemeine SS. A fine grip begins the detailed description of this edged weapon. The wood is of a high contour profile, with smooth texture throughout. This handle remains in excellent condition,  void of any major detracting chips, splits, cracks, fractures, flaking, repairs, or anything else. It has the typical light pressure marks here and there, and that’s about it. A nice dark period dye really sets off this grip in the most appealing way to say the least.  Both the nickel silver eagle and SS runes button remain in wonderful condition, exhibiting just minimal surface wear from the time that this dagger was worn by it’s owner. As for the hardware fittings to this hilt, the crossguards are smooth to the touch, void of any gouges or scratching. Additionally, they nicely fit the grip with minimal shrinkage. An exceptional grip and hilt on such an early manufactured SS dagger as many 3rd Reich edged weapon collectors can attest to.

An excellent scabbard accompanies this untouched and uncleaned M33. The shell remains straight, void of any splitting, bends, major hits, or dings. One extremely minor scratch mark below the horizontal hanger strap on the obverse is hardly worth mentioning. The original period bluing process on this scabbard still is quite nice, and rates 90%. As most collectors know, this is a difficult quality to find with any early SS dagger sheath. And beyond that, there is still about 20% of the original protective lacquer clinging to the surface in the area of the upper nickel fitting. The lower bottom chape has a little misshaping to the obverse that is not all that detracting. The reverse side is smooth. Both upper and lower components are tight to the shell and held properly in place, displaying a muted patina over surfaces. At the top of this scabbard is the early RZM SS marked vertical hanger that for all intent and purposes looks to be frozen in time, and original to this shell. The leather is in wonderful condition, with an Assmann marked nickel clip which functions fine. Lastly, a leather D ring belt strap completes the hanger assembly. This hanger alone is a nice $700.00 bonus that comes with this edged weapon.

An excellent blade finishes the description to this desirable Hammesfahr SS dagger. It remains straight, full length, void of any sharpening, buffing, cleaning, major runner marks or cutting edge chips. There is some surface imperfection at the tip area which most likely was caused by moisture being present within the scabbard at some time. You actually cannot feel any pitting or deformity in this area, as the steel remains as smooth as the other sections of this blade. The rest of the surface displays a beautiful fine line muted crossgrain which this manufacture was noted for. For those collectors who study the fine details to the SS blades in their collection, the letters variation of the Meine Ehre heist Treue  etch is the less frequently seen “type” observed manufactured by this firm. And speaking of the motto, it is a nice deep etch eaten into the steel, with beautiful burnishing to each and every letter. On the reverse is the pyramid logo of the Gottlieb Hammesfahr edge weapon firm. One of the first companies the Reichsfuhrer hand picked to produce these daggers for his elite black uniformed paramilitary organization; the feared and dreaded Allgemeine SS!

Here is a nice untouched example and all complete, if you’ve been awaiting for such a gem to add to your collection.  SOLD
