Early SA Dagger by Puma – D1249

The grip to this dagger remains in decent condition overall, exhibiting one small skiff of wood to the lower obverse and a couple of light pressure marks. The emblems consisting of a high neck nickel silver eagle and SA runes button are totally caked with thick patina which has covered their surfaces entirely. The same goes for the crossguards as well. I don’t think I’ve seen all that many other SA / SS daggers in the past with such a crusted undisturbed green oxidation as what you are observing with this early Storm Troopers’ dress dagger.

Now the scabbard is quite a mystery to say the least. The shell itself remains straight, void of any hits, bends, splits, or dings, but what is covering the surface is beyond me. On the obverse is a gold gilt which is nearly 100% intact. It has a semi-rough texture, with a glittery appearance when viewed in the sunlight. Now on the reverse, that very same substance has turned a rust red in color. Apparently from the undisturbed time this scabbard has been lying dormant after the war. I’ve certainly observed post war altered edged weapon in the past, but I’m not so sure that’s what we are observing here. Look at the rest of this dagger; it’s virtually been un-touched for nearly a century. Perhaps this SA belonged to one of Ernst Rohms’ favorite leadership officers in the organization who was allowed such an alteration. As it certainly looks to have been accomplished during the infamous era. Both upper and lower nickel fittings are as grungy as the hilt crossguards.

Now when you finally look at this blade, it’s actually damn nice! It remains straight, full length, void of any sharpening, tipping or cutting-edge chips. To add to that, the surface still projects an excellent cross-grain finish to both sides. And if that isn’t enough, check out the beautiful, burnished Alles fur Deutschland motto! It doesn’t get any better!

There you have it. An SA dagger with the flamboyant flare of that of the leader of the Storm Troopers para-military organization, Ernst Rohm.  $850.00
