Early SA Dagger by Kober – D945

Without a doubt the edged weapon that was a symbol of the 3rd Reich and started it all, was none other than the SA dagger. Produced in late 1933, and carried all the way through until the end of production in 1942, this dagger never seemed to ceased in numbers during the Nazi regime. And although plentiful in the collecting community, its popularity has never waned. Take a look at this beauty!

Although the SA daggers produced in the Suhl region of Germany are considered more common as far as the rarity list goes, they rate as a 10 on my desirability chart! And it all starts with that beautiful grip like the one that you see on this dagger. These early SA’s, manufactured in Suhl area, were more often than not fitted with walnut handles. Most 3rd Reich dagger enthusiasts can identify this trait whenever they see one being offered for sale. I’m telling you the grip of this Kober is an absolute killer! Lined with vertical light and dark grain running throughout, the wood is nothing short of fantastic. Both the SA runic button and the eagle grip emblems as perfect as the day that they were expertly set within this handle. The same goes for the hardware holding this entire hilt together. The upper and lower crossguards are extremely smooth, with a nice pleasant patina that has developed over their surfaces. The thinner rocker shaped lower crossguard, known also as a trait of this edged weapon firm is lightly Gau stamped “Th” on the reverse. With this edged weapon comes a 3 piece hanger, and you can see the upper portion of that accoutrement around the upper section of this grip. The leather still remains supple, with the hardware function fine. An absolute beautiful hilt assembly on this early SA, that fits like a glove.

Getting a great scabbard with any edged weapon is always a bonus. And it doesn’t get much better than the one that you are seeing here. This shell is every bit as nice as a collector could hope for condition wise. But to top that off, the anodizing and protective lacquer on this shell is nothing short of fantastic! Both rating 98%. The upper and lower nickel fittings are in good shape, and held securely in place by 4 factory dome head screws. Finally, attached to the upper scabbard ring, is a brown leather hanger, with an Assmann clip. Truly a damn nice scabbard to this beautiful Kober SA.

Lastly, the all-important blade…… and what a blade it is! Full length, perfectly straight, and loaded with a killer crossgrain that runs both sides, all the way down. With only a few slight age spots and typical runner marks that’s all there is to really speak of. And if that isn’t enough for you, take a look at that stunning black motto etched down the center of the obverse on this blade! There were only a handful of edged weapon firms that took the extra time and process to darken the motto on their blades. And none did it any better than the Wilh Kober company. Each and every letter in the Alles fur Deutschland etch, is nothing short of stunning. You’ve got to love it when a dagger like this, gets topped off with such a beautiful blade, as the one that you are seeing with this early Kober SA. On the reverse is the neat Centaur logo. Under the half man half horse trademark proclaims the history of this company going back to 1874. This blade has it all. Condition, crossgrain, and motto….. it doesn’t get any better.

An absolutely fantastic early Kober SA!   SOLD
