Early SA Dagger by HACO – D1161
This is a sweet looking Stormtrooper dagger in this offering, all un-touched and beautifully toned. The grip is of a medium contour profile, void of any chips, splits, repairs, or significant pressure marks. There is a small bit of foreign black substance on the surface of the wood shown on the lower right obverse area. It’s not all that detracting, looks to have been there for quite some time, and I’d recommend just leaving it as is. Both grip insignia are flush to the wood surface and are in good condition. As shown in the photos, the crossguards have taken on an attractive golden glow as a result of how the elements in the atmosphere have toned these components. The pommel nut does show some scaring where it was probably gripped with a set of pliers in order to remove it in order to inspect the hilt for any hidden “Nazi treasures”. In spite of that, it too has taken on the same gold toning as the rest of the hilt fittings.
A very nice scabbard accompanies this early Haco SA dagger. The shell remains fairly straight with just a couple of very minor surface imperfections. That aside, the chemical browning process has held up very nice on this scabbard. It rates a solid 90% and even to include a good portion of the period factory clear lacquer protective coating. One glance at the upper and lower fittings on this scabbard brings a smile to a collector’s face, as they have beautifully toned to exactly match the hardware on the hilt of this edged weapon. Through the upper fitting ring is a nice early Assmann marked nickel silver clip and leather hanger. To top that off is the matching D ring belt strap that came with this accoutrement.
We finish up with the blade, and like all the other components to this edged weapon it remains virtually untouched. Oh, it exhibits some minor surface age. Though truthfully, not all that detracting for what this dagger represents, especially for the allure for a purest. It remains full length, void of any tipping, sharpening, buffing, bends, twists, or cutting-edge chips. The Alles fur Deutschland motto still projects a light grey burnishing to each and every letter of the etch. On the reverse is the simple company logo displaying the HACO name, and the city Berlin. One of the few edged weapon firms to have resided out of the “city of swords” Solingen.
A neat dagger in its entirety, with the addition of $200 in leather accoutrements on it to boot. $1050.00
