Early SA by Kaufmann and Sohne – D952

Always nice to find a more uncommon or unique maker that you don’t see too often. That’s just what we have in this listing, it’s an early SA by Kaufmann and Sohne. Rated as a 7 on the McSarr list, and not all that often seen out there for sale.

The grip on this SA is in good condition. It is void of any chips, flaking, cracks or missing material. It has a smooth finish throughout and wonderful hourglass shape. An excellent high neck nickel silver eagle is set straight and centered, showing a nice dark patina and good detail. At the top of the obverse the same can be noted for the SA runes button. As for the hardware, both the upper and lower crossguards have taken on a muted hue over their smooth nickel surfaces. Centered on the reverse of the lower guard is the stamped SA Gruppe mark Ha.

A decent scabbard accompanies this rarer maker SA. It remains straight and void any dents. The original period anodizing has lighten somewhat over the year, though still rates strong at 85%. The upper and lower nickel silver hardware is solid and secure to this shell, and exhibits a nice even patina over their surfaces.

Finishing things out is the blade. It remains full length, void of any tipping, sharpening, buffing or excessive pitting. Overall, the blade shows some light surface age, though not all that detracting for an untouched dagger. In addition, an excellent Alles Fur Deutschland motto is shown etched right down the center of the obverse. One tiny tick can be found on the cutting edged of this blade, though hardly worth mentioning. Though full length, the very tip of the blade has a very slight 1% back bend to it. Was probably used to pry something at one time.  Both obverse and reverse sides of this blade is loaded with a crossgrain finish which collectors love to see. On the reverse ricasso is a shield with a crown logo, the trademark of the Kaufmann and Sohne firm of Solingen.

A very decent solid example of an early Storm Trooper’s dagger.  SOLD
