Early Hitler Youth Knife by Horster – D713

Here is a solid example of a Hitler Youth knife with the blade motto, Blut und Ehre. Typical for these knives, the hilt is plated steel and as shown, it has endured some lifting and flaking. In lieu of that it still remains at 75% there a bouts. Both halves of the checked grip are in good condition, being void of any splits, cracks or missing material. The rivets are slightly loose on this hilt allowing the plates to move a little. But they are secure enough to insure the integrity of the handle and keep it in place. A very nice Hitler Youth diamond has been expertly set with precision into the obverse grip plate. The scabbard to this knife is an early example with single internal runner, and blue anodized shell. It remains nice and straight, void of any splits, hits, or dings. The bluing is still strong at 90%. Completing the shell assembly is the leather hanger all proper and functions fine. We finish up with the blade. Though not perfect, it is fairly decent in light of the fact that it’s owner was probably between the ages of 12-17 when it was worn, and used it as most youngsters would. This blade remains straight, full length, void of any sharpening, chips, or bends. You can see on the surface there is some staining on both sides. Though not as bad as many of these youth knives which collectors encounter. This blade is void of the reinforcing riccasso block which indicates a relatively early production knife. And it is equip with the “Blood and Honor” motto as well. The practice of acid etching the Hitler Youth motto on these HJ’s only ran up and through 1938. For some reason which was probably due to cost, the practice was discontinued there after. Finally, the blade is complete with it’s leather washer which many times is gone to time. SOLD
