Early Heer Officer’s Dagger by Holler – D1152
As you’ve already noticed by now by the slant grip, this is an introductory army dagger which was most likely produced early on during the inception of these edged weapon in 1935. The handle while exhibiting mild surface wear and minor age cracks, it still remains structurally sound overall. And of course, the dramatic downward angle of the decorative handle recesses has given way to what 3rd Reich edged weapon collectors have come to term as a “slant grip”. Other than what was mentioned, the handle remains in decent condition, especially for such and early manufactured Heer officer’s dagger. Both the 14 leaf pommel as well as the eagle crossguard are heavy silver over brass composition, once again pointing to the early vintage of this dagger.
While the scabbard has endured some hits and dings as shown, it’s not all that horrible since it is the rarer sheath which once again, manufactured out of brass. You can see that it has taken on a subtle golden tint, which was very characteristic of Heer daggers manufactured by this edged weapon firm. This was most likely due to the protective clear which yellowed over the years. I’ve noticed this affect also even on war time produced Holler armies as well. Both scabbard bands are in place and hold the hanger rings properly. Lastly, the throat is secure by 2 side mounted screws.
That brings us to the blade. It remains straight, full length, void of any tipping, pitting, buffing, or cutting-edge chips. Granted the surface does show some staining, light surface scars and age, but like every other component on this edged weapon remains basically un-touched for the last 90 years. Though the area is out of sight, the blade washer is gone to time on this dagger. Finally, a nice clear as well as dark thermometer trademark logo is shown on the reverse side.
Agreed, it’s not a mint super early slant. And if it were, it would definitely be a whole lot more than this………… $845.00
