Deutsches Jager Sr. Forestry Hirschfanger by Eickhorn – D1043
As the title says, this a forestry dagger which was produced during the 3rd Reich era by the famous Carl Eickhorn edged weapon firm. The grip plates are nicely match stag sections, cut, trimmed, and fit with precision. Both halves remain super tight to the spine, and adorned with 3 beautifully toned acorns per side. The heavy brass hilt displays a muted gilt wash throughout, with nice coverage overall. All of the hardware components are super tight on this hilt, to include that of the clam shell. Wrapped around the crossguard and ferrule section is the original knot that this Hirschfanger came with. The portapee is in good shape, displaying light age consistent with wear.
An excellent sheath accompanies this forestry Hirschfanger. The shell is surprisingly straight and firm for one of these rather delicate scabbards which quite often are prone to bends, breaks, and spring deformity. I remains covered in wonderful condition leather shown both fore and aft, with just very light surface age. Both upper and lower steel fittings are properly in place, and are in decent condition. The later showing a little deformity which is mainly confined to the reverse.
Finally the massive thick blade. It remains full length, straight, void of any tipping, sharpening, or cutting edge chips. There are a couple small specks of surface age mainly toward the tip. But I’m telling you right now, they are totally overshadowed by the absolutely gorgeous dark burnished hunting and forestry scenes etched down both sides of this blade. On the reverse riccasso is the properly stamped the 1935-41 Eickhorn trademark.
A beautiful DJ Forestry dagger in it’s entirety. $2500.00
