Deluxe Hunting Hirschfanger by Eickhorn – D1117
By and large the most costly to manufacture, and beautiful Deutsches Jager Hirschfanger to come out of the 3rd Reich era, is stunning so called Eickhorn Deluxe pattern hunting dagger. Here is a wonderful example in this offering.
The massive stag horn grip on the hilt of these edged weapons is a sight to behold. Laden with light and dark growth pattern and features, collector are usually in awe when they first hold one of these beautiful daggers for the first time. This grip remains in fantastic condition throughout, void of any chips, splits, or fractures. Equally as stunning are the absolutely gorgeous heavy silver fittings consisting of the clam shell, crossguard, ferrule, pommel cap, and acorn pommel nut on these hilts. Just look at the exquisite detail in those components, as the relief features absolutely jump out at the viewer! Shown in the photos, all of the hardware has taken on a rich dark patina which projects a stunning contrast to stag handle on these wonderful edge weapons. No wonder these things cost so much during the period, as few individuals could afford them.
The scabbard to this DJ Hirschfanger remains in excellent condition as well. The sheath retains a fairly straight profile, considering the internal springs that these shells are manufactured with. The period dark green Moroccan leather is in good shape, void of any rips, tears, splits, seam issues or dry rot. The reverse does shows some light pressure marks where something once laid on this scabbard. Both upper and lower silver fittings are heavily toned dark, beautifully matching the hilt components.
An excellent blade completes this desirable Eickhorn masterpiece. It is straight, full length, tight in the fittings, while being void of any buffing, polishing, sharpening, tipping, or cutting edge chips. Common for these blades, it shows a little surface age at the tip sections. Though honestly not all that detracting for such an un-cleaned and untouched deluxe pattern DJ. The floral and fauna triple etch still displays very nicely on the blade, bringing out the design with the factory burnished backgrounds. Finally, on the reverse is the proper stamped squirrel logo that you want to see with these 3rd Reich Eickhorn produced blades.
If you’ve been holding out for one of these sought after Deluxe pattern DJ’s, here you go. This is a sweet example in every respect. $5495.00
