Deluxe Hunting Dagger by Eickhorn – D707

From the estate of well known long time 3rd Reich edged weapon collector Barry Brown, this listing is for the Eickhorn Deluxe Hirschfanger which he had in his collection. As many collectors were aware of, Barry once owned the most famous edged weapon to ever have been produced during the 3rd Reich, and that was the magnificent SS Sepp Dietrich sword.

Like all of these revered hunting cutlass’ manufactured by the famous Carl Eickhorn edged weapon firm, the grip on to this Hirschfanger is a massive section of stag. The antler handle is in good shape, void of any breakage or splitting. In the center you can see that the DJ emblem has been lightly filed to de-Nazify it. As collectors we know that these things happened after the war. Though the symbol is quite a small detail, it certainly can be an important feature to some. Evidently Barry saw this as a small detraction from this otherwise beautiful DJ Hirschfanger If the next owner wishes to have another original grip emblem to replace this one, we will provide that to them complementary without charge. Moving on, the pommel, crossguard and clam shell silver components have taken on a gorgeous patina which remains unpolished and beautifully toned with age. Around the hilt is wrapped the portapee that this dagger came with, all frozen in time and place.

The scabbard to this deluxe Eickhorn is truly a thing of beauty. It is straight, void of any bends or creases, with fantastic original period dark green leather which is about as perfect as you’re apt to see on one of these shells. The lower fitting is securely stapled to the lower section of the scabbard, and toned the same and exactly matching the hilt components. As shown in the photos, the upper fitting still displays fantastic silver frosting over the areas peeking out from the hanger. An excellent frog is attached to the upper part of this scabbard, with green leather which exactly matches that of the shell covering. That component by itself is a $400 accoutrement, and a nice added little bonus to this edged weapon.

Lastly, we round out this Deluxe Hirschfanger with the blade and in true Eickhorn style, it’s a beauty. This blade remains full length, drawn to a needle sharp tip, and void of any sharpening, polishing, or cutting edge chips. As shown in the photos, there is a slight bit of surface age at the tip. In lieu of that, take a look at that beautiful burnished hunting scene which graces both sides of this blade. On the reverse riccasso is stamped the 1935-41 squirrel logo of the most famous edged weapon manufacture known during the 3rd Reich era; Carl Eickhorn.

There you have it, a Deluxe model Hunting Hirschfanger from the estate of renown 3rd Reich edged weapon collector, Barry Brown.  SOLD
